City Scope Africa, in partnership with the African CleanUp Initiative (ACINIGERIA), proudly co-hosted the Circular Economy Summit and Awards 2024 in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, on Saturday, October 26, 2024. The event was dedicated to advancing sustainable practices, promoting the circular economy, and driving environmental innovation within Nigeria’s growing economic landscape.
Representing City Scope Africa were Chief Executive Officer, Oluwatomisin Olowoyo, Strategic Board Member and Due Process/Ease-of-Doing Business Lead, Victor Oyejide (CMILT), who also serves as Co-founder of RecycleEdge and Founder, John Fatanmi (JGold). The summit brought together industry leaders, sustainability experts, policymakers, and environmental advocates, all united by a shared commitment to building a resilient, sustainable Nigeria.
The event commenced with an insightful address by Dr. Oluwafemi Idowu-Adegoke (MCIWM), who emphasised the importance of green standards, sustainable agriculture, and urban resilience in achieving Nigeria’s sustainability goals. He called for collaboration across industries—a vision that strongly aligns with City Scope Africa’s mission to drive impactful change through partnerships and thought leadership.
A key highlight of the summit was a panel discussion on sustainability in everyday life. Adewole Taiwo encouraged participants to embrace personal responsibility through waste reduction (3Rs), energy transition, and waste segregation. Meanwhile, Jumoke Olowookere and Adejoke Lasisi inspired attendees to adopt sustainability as a lifestyle, emphasising the need to view waste as a resource and an opportunity for innovation.
Education also emerged as a central theme, with stakeholders underscoring the importance of embedding circular economy principles in the education system. This approach ensures that future generations are equipped with the knowledge and values needed to lead Nigeria’s sustainable transformation.
