D’Tigress makes history, wins 2023 Afrobasket for the fourth time in a row, qualifies for 2024 Olympics
The 2023 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship was won by Nigeria’s female basketball team, D’Tigress, for the fourth consecutive time. They defeated the Senegal national team, known as the Lionesses, in the final match with a score of 84-74. This victory marked their sixth championship overall.
Led by Rena Wakama, D’Tigress’s coach showcased their dominance from the start, establishing a nine-point lead by the end of the first quarter. With this win, Nigeria’s national team earned the opportunity to compete for a spot at the women’s basketball event of the 2024 Olympics. The tournament took place at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, and D’Tigress emerged as the undisputed champions once again.

The 2023 Afrobasket victory also secured a significant opportunity for D’Tigress. By emerging as the champions, they earned the chance to compete for a spot at the women’s basketball event in the 2024 Olympics, further raising the stakes and excitement for their team and fans.
