2025 World Clean-Up Day: City Scope Africa Joins FBRA to Champion Sustainability and Circular Economy in Nigeria

As Africa’s foremost environmental publication dedicated to sustainability reporting, waste management, and Circular Economy advocacy, City Scope Africa was honoured to participate in the 2025 World Clean-Up Day on the invitation of the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA).

The event, held in collaboration with Let’s Do It Nigeria, took place at the Ikosi-Isheri Local Government Secretariat, beside Ketu Fruits Market, in Ikosi-Ketu, Lagos State, Nigeria. It brought together key stakeholders, environmental advocates, and recyclers in a united effort to promote a cleaner and greener Nigeria.

The Buyback Initiative: Promoting Responsible Waste Management

A major highlight of the event was the Buyback Initiative, an innovative approach aligned with Nigeria’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Programme under the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA).

Through this initiative, residents exchanged recyclable waste materials for products from FBRA member companies, a creative incentive model that drives community participation in recycling and environmental sustainability.

This initiative not only supports responsible waste disposal but also reinforces the principles of waste-to-wealth creation — a critical step toward achieving a circular economy in Nigeria.

City Scope Africa’s Commitment to a Sustainable Future

At City Scope Africa, our mission is to amplify voices and stories that inspire environmental consciousness and sustainable development across Africa. We commend all environmental advocates, industry leaders, and community actors who continue to drive initiatives that turn waste into economic value, foster partnerships, and advance the green economy.

We remain committed to supporting programs and policies that encourage responsible consumption, recycling innovation, and climate resilience across the continent.

Appreciation to Partners Driving Sustainability

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to FBRA and its partner organizations for their outstanding leadership and commitment to sustainability. Partners include Nestlé Nigeria, GreenTrash, Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Retreasure, NYSC Lagos, Let’s Do It Nigeria, UNICEF, Sonnex Packaging, and FABE International Foundation, among others.

Their collective efforts demonstrate what can be achieved when the private sector, public institutions, and communities work together for the environment.

Building Africa’s Circular Economy, One Initiative at a Time

As we commemorate World Clean-Up Day 2025, City Scope Africa reaffirms its dedication to promoting environmental awareness, recycling innovation, and sustainable practices across the African continent.

Together, we can build a future where waste becomes wealth, communities thrive sustainably, and Africa leads the global green transition.
